A strong storm called Typhoon Gaemi hit Taiwan on Thursday, July 25, 2024. The storm brought very fast winds and lots of rain. The wind was as fast as 205 kilometers per hour, which is very strong.

Sadly, two people died because of the storm. One woman was hit by a falling tree, and another was hit by part of a house that fell. More than 200 people were hurt.

The storm was expected to go straight to Taiwan, but it changed direction because of Taiwan's mountains. It stayed near the coast for a long time before moving onto land.

People in Taiwan prepared for the storm. They closed schools, offices, and markets. Many trains and planes stopped running. Some places lost power.

Now, the storm is moving towards China. People there are worried because they already had a lot of rain and floods recently. The storm might bring more rain to areas that are already very wet.

The storm also caused problems in the Philippines. In Manila, the big city, streets were full of water. People had to walk through deep water to get around.

This typhoon got stronger very quickly over warm ocean water. Scientists say this happens more often now because of climate change.

The storm is causing problems in different countries. It shows how big storms can affect many places and people. Countries are working hard to keep people safe from the storm's dangers.

People can do things to stay safe during typhoons.

Here are some useful things we can do to stay safe:

  1. Make a storm kit: Pack water, canned food, a flashlight, and batteries.

  2. Know where to go: Find out where the nearest shelter is.

  3. Charge your phone: Keep your phone charged and have a backup battery.

  4. Fill the bathtub: Fill it with clean water in case the water stops working.

  5. Move things inside: Bring in outdoor furniture and toys that could blow away.

  6. Stay informed: Keep checking the news for updates about the storm.

  7. Have a family plan: Make sure everyone knows what to do if you get separated.

  8. Help pets: Don't forget to make plans to keep your pets safe too.

After the storm, be careful. Watch out for fallen power lines and flooded roads. Help your neighbors if you can. By working together, we can stay safe and recover faster from big storms. Remember, being prepared is the best way to stay safe during a typhoon. It's important for everyone, even kids, to know what to do when a big storm comes.
